چکیده
We report here on initial studies of a pulsed hydromagnetic plasma gun that can operate in either pre-filled or gas-puff mode demand. These modes enable agile and responsive performance through tunable thrust specific impulse. Operation with molecular nitrogen propellant is demonstrated to show the thruster candidate technology for air-harvesting drag compensation very low Earth orbit. A dual operation achieved by leveraging gasdynamics change fill fraction flow collisionality within thruster. Using time-of-flight emission diagnostics characterize near-field velocities, we find relatively dramatic transition occurs between as gas allowed expand thruster, exhaust velocities ranging from 10 55 km/s deflagration detonation regimes, Simulations processed mass bit offer first glimpse into possible trade-offs impulse thrust. An tunability ?22% predicted, differing fractions when operating burst mode.

Efficiency Analysis of a High-Specific Impulse Hall Thruster
Performance and plasma measurements of the high-specific impulse NASA-173Mv2 Hall thruster were analyzed using a phenomenological performance model that accounts for a partially-ionized plasma containing multiply-charged ions. Between discharge voltages of 300-900 V, the results showed that although the net decrease of efficiency due to multiplycharged ions was only 1.5-3.0%, the effects of mul...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of High Specific Impulse Ion Thruster Optics
A high specific impulse ion thruster (HiIsp-IT) operated at a voltage of 10 kV has been studied and the problems of direct ion impingement on the accelerating grid and of production and impingement of charge-exchange ions have been considered. In order to investigate these problems and to facilitate the design of HiIsp-IT grid systems, a three-dimensional particle simulation code (“igx”) that e...
متن کاملDirect thrust measurements and modelling of a radio-frequency expanding plasma thruster
It is shown analytically that the thrust from a simple plasma thruster (in the absence of a magnetic field) is given by the maximum upstream electron pressure, even if the plasma diverges downstream. Direct thrust measurements of a thruster are then performed using a pendulum thrust balance and a laser displacement sensor. A maximum thrust of about 2 mN is obtained at 700 W for a thruster lengt...
متن کاملiranian english learners’ perception and personality: a dual approach to investigating influential factors on willingness to communicate
abstract previous studies on willingness to communicate (wtc) have shown the influence of many individual or situational factors on students’ tendency to engage in classroom communication, in which wtc has been viewed either at the trait-level or situational level. however, due to the complexity of the notion of willingness to communicate, the present study suggests that these two strands are ...
Recent Results from Internal and Very-Near-Field Plasma Diagnostics of a High Specific Impulse Hall Thruster
Floating potential and ion current density measurements were taken on the laboratory model NASA-173Mv2 in order to improve understanding of the physical processes affecting Hall thruster performance at high specific impulse. Floating potential was measured on discharge chamber centerline over axial positions spanning 10 mm from the anode to 100 mm downstream of the exit plane. Ion current densi...
